Walk
down a prestigious street, Via Giovanni da Verrazzano, where
the great navigator and explorer of the Atlantic, Giovanni
da Verrazzano, was born. Let your imagination travel across
the Atlantic with Verrazzano on board his ship, ‘Delfina’
along the American coast in 1542 when he discovered the
bay at the mouth of the River Hudson. An inscription at
the base of a small statue in Battery Park announces, “Giovanni
da Verrazzano was the first citizen of New York”. |
Stroll
down the corner of Via Ghibellina, find a beautiful 17th
century tabernacle by Giovanni da San Giovanni. Verrazzano’s
house was just a few meters away from this tabernacle. Dedicated
to the Holy family, you will find Saint Joseph, serene with
a white beard as Virgin Mary sits peacefully while Child
Jesus clambers up her knees. The Blessed Family portrays
gentle smiles infusing a calm, ethereal and infinite ambience
that is magnetizing and spiritual. |
