Famous throughout Italy and
one of only a handful of restaurants in the country with
two Michelin stars, Enoteca Pinchiorri is in a class of
its own. The setting, a palazzo near Santa Croce with an
inner courtyard scented with jasmine and roses and several
elegant rooms laid with the finest linens, porcelain and
crystal, is captivating.
Though it's hovering waiter and silver domes territory,
the result is charming rather than intimidating. Food is
exquisite, though the running local joke is that you need
to book a table at a pizzeria after a meal here –
portions, in true nouvelle style, are tiny.
There are several set menus, all involving at least eight
or nine superbly executed and beautifully presented courses.
The Enoteca is as famous for its wine cellar as its food,
and Giorgio Pinchiorri has amassed a collection second to
none (with prices to match). |
