Fed up with cooking for the
nobs at his posh Fiesole restaurant, Giuseppe Alessi moved
to a more lowly neighbourhood near Santa Croce, but his
menus still reflect his knowledge of food (about which he
is happy to talk all night) and his love of intriguing dishes.
In his (somewhat uncomfortable) basement, you'll experience
new flavour combinations such as warm crostini topped with
herring and bitter greens, tagliolini with fresh green beans
and pine nuts, and linguine mare incantato ('charmed sea'),
with crab, squid and prawns. Main courses include peposo
(a braised beef stew flavoured with black pepper and pears
dating back to the Renaissance), duck with orange, and rabbit
with olives and pine nuts.
There are also a number of vegetarian options. |
